ok all you frequent Vegas guests and Vegas residents: Here is a list of 3 possible brunches we are considering when we are in town. No, Sterling isn't one of them, I have just decided $90 is a little too high.

We are looking at M resort on Sat the 19th for the Seafood buffet. I think the cost is $40 including wine or beer. Our second one is Wynn's Jazz brunch on Sun. It is $60.00 with I guess just 1 drink and the third choice is the Palms. I don't tknow how much that one is. Now, you guys help me decide......If we do the M resort we will also watch and bet on the Preakness there instead at the South Point. If we do either of the others, they will be on Sun and our kids fly out on a redeye on Sat so we will be doing it without them. This isn't a huge concern but it is something to think about. I am sure we will get to eat a few meals with them before they leave.

If the food is your main concern, I would pick M. I have never been disappointed by the food there and they also include coffee drinks. Even the fu-fu ones.

May as well go with M, then.

My reason is, if you're going to spend $60 at the Wynn with no drinks, or $50 at Simon with "meh" mimosas, you may as well spend the little extra and get the real deal at Sterling.

Remove the extra cost of Sterling from your Preakness bets! You'll drop money on a horse race but not what is arguably the best food (and best food value) in Las Vegas.

Seriously -- why settle? I'm sure there are areas where you can cut back to be able to spring the extra $60-80 total to go to Sterling.

actually we gamble very little so it isn't like we can just cut back that much. I am not saying we don't hit the casinos, of course we do and our daughter and son in law are pretty heavy race horse betters; well he is, but hubby is strictly that $2 or $5 per race gambler and I am the nickel slot type.

Believe me, I really want to do the Sterling, but I don't think any of them would agree. Hubby wastn' even thrilled with the idea of $60 a Wynn's but he didn't go into a tizzy over it either.

I'm of the "in for a penny, in for a pound" mentality. Once you've decided to eat out, the goal should be the best possible food. At least that's my goal. If you want to keep it under $50 and go to a restaurant that really brings it, just go to Bouchon. Just order a couple entrees and stay away from the wine list.

If you want a place that really brings it, and want all you can eat, Sterling or the Brazilian steakhouses (like Texas de Brazil) certainly fit the bill. If you want to keep it around $50 per person, go to Texas de Brazil, Pampas Churrascaria or Via Brasil. I can't imagine anyone leaving those places unhappy with their purchase. I think these are a FAR better value than the buffets. Brazilian steakhouses concentrate on ONE thing -- doing beef right. They don't have to have 11 million choices. They just do meat and a couple dozen side dishes. They provide higher-quality food than the buffets, for SLIGHTLY higher prices. A better bang for the buck if you ask me. Still not as good as Sterling -- but you have to be a rack of lamb, sushi, caviar and champagne lover to really get your money's worth there.

How can hubby argue with all-you-can-eat steak? The steaks are very good at these places. And if you're lucky, they've got a good feijoada -- that's gourmet heaven right there.

I would go to the M, personally.

Texas d' Brazil is no slouch. If you are going there for a special occasion, make sure that you tell them when you make the reservation. My wife and I gone there two or three wedding anniversaries and they have really done a great job on dessert for us.

By the way, the cold food table at Texas d' Brazil will satisfy those who are not "meataholics". Make sure to try the charcuterie - the sausage and cheeses are great.

================

Personally, I like to get the best food possible. However, there has got to be some finite limit to your food budget.

Five years, I get a call from a friend at work. I thought someone had died as NO ONE calls me at work. No. The friend wants me to join them for a feast at Moto in Chicago. Fortunately, I asked, "how much?" "Oh, just $225 +tip and beverages." That is my grocery budget for a month!

NMNita -

If you are considering Texas d' Brazil, they are offering a discount card on their website benefiting the Children's Cancer Fund.

The deal is 50% off 12 regularly priced meals, Sunday-Thursday only.

Strictly an FYI as I am on the e-mail lists.

thanks for the tip. I might check it out. I talked to my daughter this afternoon. She doesn't want to do M cause she wants to do our horse race betting at the South Pointe. We will be staying next door and she wants to run back and forth or be able to play the horses, drink and not worry about gambling. It looks like we will do the Texas Brazialan steak house or just forget it this trip.
