Perhaps you and the other well-dressed, well-prepared people made enough of a good impression that the hiring manager assumed you wanted full-time jobs and would expect to move up within the operation.

I've encountered a lot of prejudice and dismissal of strong work experience and serious accomplishments in my recent years of job hunting. Even in non-retail jobs. It doesn't matter what you say you're looking for or what you swear you will accept. If the perspective employer sees a candidate with experience and accomplishments, they are unwilling to believe you will "settle" for less than what you had in the past. And very few are willing or able to pay for what people used to make in the old, good economy. In many fields, median salaries have plummeted. Sales (esp. retail) and communication jobs (writing, advertising, PR, etc.) being two of the worst. :

In reading all of this, it occurred to me that insurance has to be a problem for people who seek these jobs today. There appears to be very little security in these types of jobs, and maybe no insurance benefits. What do you people do? Do you carry your own policy, or are you just going bare in hopes for a better day?

@Modhatter, There a a lot of uninsured people in the valley. When they did healthcare reform I was really hoping they would just open up Medicare enrollment for everyone (with appropriate premiums for the plan to be self-funded) but alas, that did not happen.

Former Florida Congressman Alan Grayson introduced exactly that legislation. People of any age/anywhere would be able to buy into Medicare (at cost) which would broaden the coverage pool and lower healthcare costs for all. It makes perfect sense and would not cost taxpayers a dime because the premiums would always be voluntary and self-financing. It was so obviously simple that people couldn't handle it. Not only did it fail, Alan Grayson lost his seat. I wonder how many health insurance companies funded the opponents of that legislation.

Part time and short term employees in Vegas are common and would have benefitted most from this kind of legislation. It's not a "government takeover" of healthcare because it's 100% voluntary. Those who are not offered coverage from their employer here need some kind of safety net... other than a $5000 trip to the emergency room.

So why not just hire an astrologer, ask for the candidate's birthdate, look up their placements, and if there's no secretive, discrete, eagle-eyed Scorpio placements, save them the effort of an interview!

Another interesting job thing I've experienced years ago was not getting any offers when my Resume showed I had owned a company. I was talking with my mother who casually mentioned that where she worked they circular filed all resumes from former business owners. I changed OWNER to SUPERVISOR and the offers started rolling in within days!

My resumes still shows supervisor, which is not untrue technically.
That was my experience, too. I ran a proposal-writing company for six years where I pulled together teams of freelancers to do huge corporate proposals. I had to take the truth of that off my resume. I just used my most frequent employer, said I worked for them on a freelance basis and listed one of their execs as a contact (with her permission, of course). It makes one of my hard jobs look really mamby-pamby, but people like it better that way.

Every interview I've ever had asks this type of question and the: give example of a conflict with a coworker and how you resolved the issue, type questions. People for the most part have been conditioned to have an answer lined up.

I would rather have not been invited to the interview, especially since I took off two hours from work to get there!

Be glad you didn't get a job at the Wynn. It's like working for the Nazi party.

If you're looking to get into security, go apply at the Venetian. Simple interview process, and the pay is competitive with Wynn's.

Sargent Schultz= I see nothing..... It was probably a case where they feel those who speak freely could blabber about some sensitive information or acts that go on in the casino.. Then again apply again but the app. will probably ask if you ever applied before..
