So I put an offer in on a house in 89002 over list price, and didn't get it. I also know the house won't even appraise for list price, but that is another story in itself.

The girlfriend and I decided to go forward and move anyway May 1. We figure the house hunt will be easier being there, also while renting, it will be about $200 a month cheaper than we currently are.

Craigslist has tons of listings but how do I screen them to find ones that will have 3 month or less leases

We have no pets, we both work and we are both non smokers.

Does "we both work" mean you both have jobs lined up even though you haven't moved here yet? If so, that's impressive. If not, if you're at all familiar with the current job market in Las Vegas, you know a job in your current location won't necessarily translate into a job in your future location.

Most landlords wont give 3 month leases at this time of year. If you sign up for one on May 1 then they have to re-lease it in August when the rental market is far softer. If you went 6 months it would be even worse. Maybe a few apartments with vacancy issues might be willing to take their chances in getting someone late summer, but it just isnt worth it to most to take a unit off the market at the best time of year into a strengthening marketplace.

i will have a job in place when i get there... transferring locations from current job... She is getting call back and scheduling interviews for her in the medical field. She will at least get part time, but part time there is equivalent to full time here for her because here she commutes 65 miles each way to work, whereas in Henderson I can not foresee more than a 15 mile commute each way.

many apt complexes offer short term. 3-6months.
month to month, place your own ad or roomie in a big house temporarily

There is no problem in this town finding Month to Month or 3 month leases. They won't be in the most desirable areas of town, but who cares and that is subjective. They will be centrally located which if you are new to LV is a good place to start.

No way. You can find month to month or 3 month, furnished condos/apartments no problem.

i found one in henderson, 680 for a 1 bedroom near whitney ranch all utils included...
I don't want furnished as I would then have to pay for storage.
it was hard to find month to month tho... most had 2 or 3 month then month to month. I figure I will need it for 1-4 months... depends on the house search, I should actually have an accepted offer by end of weekend... but it is a short sale so have to wait for the bank and that could take months.

I saw a 3/2/2 (today) on CL for 850.00 2 month lease, than month to month thereafter. Short Sale, through a realtor though. Type "Dutchmans Pipe" in the keyword box, and the listing should come up. The add has been up for a few weeks now (I am paying very close attention to the rental adds, as I am moving down in a few weeks) so you might be able to negotiate on the rent.
