Nope, folks that are legal residents of another State can drive their out-of-State car as long as they like in Nevada as long as they have an out-of-State driver's license.

Last time we had a Kia full size from ALamo for 249. all in for 9 days but now looking to book next Dec. for 12 days they want 760.
You cannot compare own vs. rent costs until you know the costs of owning a car in LV, and that depends on what kind of car and how old it is. Once you know that, call AAA of Southern Nevada or some other insurer and get a quote on the insurance. AAA can walk you through all the necessary steps, too.

I think if you're only here 3-4 times a year a few days or a week at a time, renting would probably be a lot less expense and hassle than owning, but if you're here for a month at a time 2-3+ times a year, a comparison would help you decide.

Ah, just as I thought. You should know better than to take an individual situation and then make a declaratory statement that generalizes it to the entire population. Las Vegas has some of the highest insurance rates in the country.

You are issued two demerits.

Well here's a link from this afternoon in the Las Vegas Sun talking about this...What a coincidence...and I like that the law does not apply to snowbirds as we have out-of-country plates.

The state Highway Patrol will be cracking down next month on residents who register their cars in other states to avoid Nevada registration fees. Chris Perry, director of the state Department of Public Safety, said counties and districts lose money when vehicles are registered out of state.Failure to register a vehicle is a misdemeanor and carries a $1,000 fine. Those who live and work in Nevada have 30 days to register their vehicles here. The law does not apply to so-called “snowbirds,” who winter in Nevada. In announcing the enforcement effort, the Department of Public Safety cited the cost difference between registering a car in Nevada and Oregon. In Washoe County, a $25,000 vehicle costs $350 to register for a year. In Oregon, the cost would be $195, and the registration would be good for four years.

Thanks
Out-of-state license turns into a pumpkin after 30 days...

Residency (NRS 483.245)
Out-of-state citizens who drive in Nevada are required to carry a valid license from their home state. And anyone who moves to Nevada must obtain a Nevada drivers license within thirty (30) days or risk misdemeanor fines and/or jail time.

Sounds a clever idea, BUT... I could totally envision your insurance co. denying a claim based on the D.L. legality issue.

Default Question about car and registration for part year resident

I'm a Michigan resident. I visit my sons in Nevada several times a year and would like to keep one of my Michigan registered cars in NV to drive while I visit. Is that permissible according to NV law?
