Well checked my bill today and it was higher again. After quick phone call they dropped it down $20. It seems like you have to do this with them every 3 months. When I told them half my neighbor had switched to Century Link they were pretty quick to drop my bill. I am going to be buying a house in the summer and at that point I am seriously considering the switch.

funny... my promotional contract was to end this month... I got a letter stating they are adding another 6 months at the reduced rate. I like it.

I had to threaten them with a switchover to Century Link if they did not waive the $80 install fee they wanted for whole house DVR service. You have to constanly play the switchover game with Cox to keep the price down.

Got my first bill from them and there was a $79.00 charge for my "free" installation. It was taken off of my bill but not until the person I spoke with got an authorization from his "supervisor". New customers beware!

This post could go on and on about Cox. A friend from work's brother has worked for both Cox and Century Link. He is currently at Century Link. He says Cox has better product with horrible customer service where as Century Link has an inferior product with great customer service. I guess it depends on your needs. In my house at any given time I can have 2 xbox's running on the internet while my wife is on the computer, I am watching Netflix, and my son is watching youtube on his ipod and they all work. I was told that wouldn't be possible with Century Link. The purpose of my initial post was to let people know with a quick phone call Cox will drop their prices.

I just switched to CenturyLink. So far, it works well enough for me. I can't tell the difference.

But I don't do a lot of bandwidth-eating applications.

I went from cox to centurylink, as soon as I see the right offer I'm going back to cox. Centurylink is terrible unless you have 1 computer, no wifi etc... And that savings gets eaten up in taxes. My $59 phone and Internet = $84 with the taxes

Yes, the Cox services esp internet is very good service, but you have to watch your bill and be willing to call and voice concerns from time to time in order to keep the bill manageable.
