Hello all. This may be a bit long so here goes. I just returned from a Sunday to Sunday stay. I stayed at the Fiesta in Henderson. The trip was for three reasons. 1. Vacation 2. Home hunting. 3. Area checking on things to see and do. First the vacation part. Airport was a breeze rented a car and brought my own GPS. Hotel and Casino was ok for the price and meet my needs and no problems there. Got to visit a few other Station casinos and did some sight seeing on the strip and took in a show at the Orleans and ate at the steak house there very good and prices good. Did valet parking each place and that was great. Went over to the Pawn shop show place checked it out. Went up to Mt Charleston ate lunch and enjoyed the desert scenery as well as the mountain scenery. Went to Ethel's M's in Henderson.
Home hunting had a agent to guide me looked at many places and put a bid on one late Friday in Paradise. Drove the area for a while and went to the various stores and etc and checked out about a 2 mile radius around the area of possible future home.
I found driving was not a gut wrenching nail biting task it was pleasant compared to Boston or Montreal. I did the 5:00 PM rush hour on 215 and 15 and did the strip in the evening. Over all a thumbs up for ever thing. I also checked out the more run down parts close to the strip and north so I saw the difference and not just the good parts.
Over all good trip met my goals and look forward to moving to Las Vegas. As in anyplace you live there are compromises you have to make but the biggest one is I do not have to shovel any of them lol. I have been to LV in the summer so I know about the heat. I will be retired so the school thing does not apply. Hope to see you soon.

Looking forward to having you here Irish. I've been here a while week now myself. I bought a repo and there were several repairs to be made which we are doing with the help of some of the repair people that I was referred to from the wonderful people on this forum. I have found the prices for the repairs very reasonable and the people very professional.

In fact all of the people (save one Home Depot employee) have all been very nice. Have actually had 4 sets of neighbors come over to introduce themselves and welcome us to the neighborhood. I moved from California were I lived in the same house for 26 years and could not name 4 neighbors.

Anyway, again, welcome to Las Vegas, Denise

Glad everything went well on your trip. You'll love living in LV as a retiree. For example, today is Senior Wednesday at all of the Station casinos. Free slot tournaments and 1/2 price points for all the restaurants, among other things. You also mentioned that you liked the Orleans. They have their senior specials on Tuesdays: 241 buffets and $4 movie tickets. Other casinos have specials on Mondays and Thursdays as well. And of course, there are all of the dining and entertainment specials for locals in general, not just those of us over 50.

You'll have a great time when you move out here.

You get Senior Wednesday on Tuesday? That's a heck of a deal!

I'm glad you wrote this. I had a similar experience as well when I moved here. I, too, know more of my neighbors here than I did in 25 years of living in three different neighborhoods in Maryland. Las Vegans are some of the nicest and friendliest people I've ever come across.

LOL. That's one of the problems with being retired: you lose track of the days of the week!

When I retired I was prepared to lose track of the days of the month, but this not knowing what day of the week it is came as a shock to me.

Hey, it's great when your week (or your life for that matter) is one long weekend!

Similar experience here. I just went to the new house on Saturday to pick up the key and change the locks and while I was doing so, 2 neighbors showed up to introduce themselves.
