The house that I am buying in Las Vegas is closing tomorrow.
I thought I had the insurance covered and then find out they won't cover a secondary home unless I switch my primary home insurance to them also.

So I'm trying to find some insurance that will do a secondary standalone policy. I don't want to switch my primary house over to different insurance at this time.

I have a quote from Foremost Insurance ($775yr) but is seems alittle high.
Anyone have some experience with this?

No I have Mercury and they won't cover out of California.

I have good rates with them so don't really want to switch.

try liberty or call ams insurance which is inside of the walmarts...i have 3 homes... my rentals cost me around 400-500 to insure. If this is a vacation home for you (furnished), it will cost significantly more since no one is living there.

I've got Farmer's Insurance to do one of my Vegas home's insurance without me having my primary with them.

My other home is with Nationwide, but Nationwide requires your primary to be with them. That being said, Nationwide does give really good rates for both primary and secondary homes. I think I'll eventually move everything to Nationwide ... but I'm procrastinating on that one.

Most insurance companies will do it, but the agents might be reluctant to take on your business. Homeowners is really a loss leader for insurance companies. If you dont do cars or life they often lose money covering homes so call around but dont be shocked if you dont get the warmest service.

Well surprisingly it came down to Allstate and Farmers with the best rates and who would do it. I went with Allstate. The yearly rate with higher liability of 500,000 was $456.00.

I have concerns about the pool and liability insurance that is why I went with higher coverage.
