I'm from Anchorage, AK and been thinking about moving to Nevada. Pros and cons?

How long is the average time to get a job for out-of-towners? I have banking/retail/airport experience. What is the mininum wage?
Is there alot of jobs in Henderson or Vegas?
What is a good neigborhood near Henderson? I'm looking preferably between $500-800 for 2 bdrm.

I'm looking for a big change, and been to Nevada before and really like the atmosphere. Always wanted to live in the southwest.

Just need some advice if good decision? Alot people say don't come here because no jobs, pay is really low, but seems like hard to get a job anywhere.

Las Vegas may be in Nevada, but it isn't really Nevada, it is actually the east side of Los Angeles. For Nevada you need to look at Pioche, Ely, Eureka, Tonopah etc.

Don't listen to people who say "use the search function" - it rarely produces what you're *actually* looking for.

Las Vegas is obviously a unique place; you're best bet for work is in the tourism industry - you say "airport experience" - as what though?

When I lived there, it was during the "boom" so construction was a good field as well - 6000 people a month were moving there and had to live somewhere.. now I imagine that industry is struggling since so many have left.

If I had a few bucks to spare, I'd buy a house there.. the house I lived in (didn't own in unfortunately) was bought in 2001 for $175K and was worth up to $250K.. and now according to zillow.com is for sale for $88K..
If you're used to Alaska, you'll love driving up to the mountains and hiking around up there..

Good luck.. I lived there 4 years and when I can, would love to go back - it's not for everyone but no place is.

I would love to buy a home there, looks like houses are super cheap compared to here in Anchorage. But is it true they don't want to sell to you if you are new? You have to have lived there for at least 3 years or something?
And my other question is, I've visited a few times and loved it, but once I move there will I get bored? I'm afraid I'll miss the fall and a little snow.

For people that have moved to Nevada from a different state, does it get boring, do you miss where you came from? Does the heat get unbearable?

I've never heard of the 3-year thing..

Perhaps they're just nervous because of all the foreclosure's these days?? idk.
The heat.. is heat. Do people go crazy from the cold of Alaska?? I'm sure plenty can't wait for winter to be over, but it is what it is -
If Las Vegas is where you're headed.. I don't see how you could ever be bored.
When it's 107 degrees in the summer and you need a break, drive up to Mt. Charleston.. you'll be 8000' in elevation.. nice and cooler but still pleasant - if you like hiking.. MILES of trails leading to the summit which is just shy of 12k feet. I only summited once, but hiked at least once/week in the trails up there.
In winter when there's too much snow up there.. go out to Red Rock Canyon and walk there...
and any time of the year, you can go to Lake Mead.. maybe get a boat or a jetski. I never had one while there but that would've been fun.

And.. it's Las Vegas - there's a little area called "the Strip" LOL
I don't gamble.. but would just go for a walk through the beautiful casinos and absorb the action and people-watch...
Some of the best restaurants you'll ever find are there - too many to name here.
If you're into the nightclub scene, there's plenty of that (I'm not.. so can't really give any comments on the best places)
Every entertainer in the world comes to LV at some point, and many have extended residencies there.. plus the other shows that are staples.
