Is it also possible to find such info for a specific address? Thanks. (As I've mentioned before, I'm considering buying in Desert Shores or the Hills/Pueblo sections of Summerlin. I know of one condo complex in DS that has a lot of Section 8, but I only know that through word of mouth. Would love to be able to do a search for more specific and conclusive info.) It sounds like Section 8 is more widespread than I would have thought, if it applies as high as $1400/mo. for families below a certain income level. I'm not entirely sure Section 8 is "bad"--I would think that a majority of these are simply struggling families contending with a difficult economy--but I know it often has negative connotations for a neighborhood.
I would hope that that information is not publicly available to anyone. I would hate for people to look up if any of my properties were deemed section 8 territory. Even worse would be having that information to check on someone in your neighborhood. Someone may have the best neighbors until they find out they are on section 8. That's when the unfair opinions begin.

One of my neighbors is extremely anti section 8. Talks bad about owners that rent to section 8 all the time. He always comments about how he hopes they don't move to the neighborhood. Little does he know that one of the family that shares his cul-de-sac is a section 8 family. I know because my wife knows the land lord. Yet since my neighbor probably does not know this, he thinks that they are a swell, quiet family.

I bet his opinion would change about them if he found out. Not fair to the family at all.

You're right. Don't know why I didn't think of this. Someone posted upthread that in 89134 there are three Section 8s and it made me wonder how to access that sort of info., but of course it would be terribly unfair, even possibly dangerous, for the Section 8 tenants themselves if such info were public domain. Probably violate privacy laws too.

^^
According to that site, the 2 section-8 homes available for rent a couple of blocks away from my home are going for $1400-1500 a month. One is the about the same in size, the other is slightly smaller.

My mortgage is $850.

I'm at $805 now. Rents in my neighborhood are still $1200-1500.

A crock. The rent is high because that is what the market will bear. Landlords want to get as much as possible for their investment. And why shouldn't they?

If someone agrees to rent a property for $1,200 per month, why should the landlord lower the rent to $800?

If you want to spend less on housing, buy a house.

Are apartment/ condo rents in Las Vegas cheaper or more expensive than say, Albuquerque or Fresno?

I'd love to swoop in and pick up a few cheap apartments in any of those three cities and rent them out but which city has the cheapest rent?

This sounds like VERY easy money

HA, Ha!..pretty funny, thanks for the laugh! Can't imagine a bigger waste of time...and Las Vegas rents compared to most 2mil+ size cities are LOW.
