On Monday afternoon I got a call from my spouse that our home had been burglarized. They took all of my electronics and other miscellaneous items. Thankfully no one was home. Unfortunately I did not have much security (I just moved in about 3 months ago).

I live in the NorthWest area off of 95/Durango/Farm... it's a new construction community with about half of the community containing empty lots. I feel pretty upset and unnerved.

Looks like the burglars use some type of jimmy rig to bust the door frame and get in.

Just wanted to share my experience with everyone, please be careful out there.

Sorry to hear that. I had the same thing happen to me in my apartment in Phoenix. Unfortunately, I had no insurance so I was really screwed. I learned, and have full insurance now.

Sorry to hear. It's the violation of it all that hurts the most.

Very nice of you to post warning for others in your area.

I never hear about the added security needed to live in Las Vegas mentioned in the cost of living arguments. Where my brother lives (Summerlin), everyone has a security system...or at least the little sign says they do.

And good security don't come cheap.

That sucks. Sorry to hear, but for everyone's info, you can install this type of device on the door to mostly prevent that type of entry from working:

SAFE HOMES INTERNATIONAL GALLERY

Obviously nothing will stop them from getting in if they are determined, but it's something.

sorry to hear about this .... I had my house broke into years ago,....Now I keep hidden cameras and a recording device hidden also....haven't had to use it ....but I won't be taken again....

Important thing is that no one was home, and your family is safe.... Best to either get a security system, or at best , get those fake stickers that look like you have since got one, in case the thieves decided it was too easy, and try and come back....

BPG~

Get a Dog, best security system you can have! No one will break into a house if there is barking going on, because they dont want to alert the neighbors, or, they dont want to get bitten either.

Or you can get one of those alarms that, when some one approaches the door, will set a recording of a huge dog, going ballistic, so that they will bypass the house.

Of course, if they had 'cased' the joint, then they will know if you have a dog or not, since they usually spend a few days watching the place. But, if its a spur of the moment thing, they will think twice about it.

Nothing is ever as bad, as feeling 'violated' and having your security taken away from you, and, its why I have had a dog of some sort for over 33 years now...

I wish you well...

Jesse

I'd have rather been home when the entered...I have a cool security system...when it goes off it sounds just like a .45!
