I will be getting off a plane after 5 hours with a dog, can anyone suggest the nearest place that I might find a patch of grass or dirt for her to use after the flight? thanks in advance

That's an interesting question. Are you renting a car, or is somebody picking you up? Where are you heading to?

It's a big airport and dangerous for a dog not in a carrier. Even on a leash there's just too many people and cars whizzing around her. There is really no place on the airport property until you get away from the airport, and that will take a while. She's probably looking at another 45 minutes at least. If you are driving there is a dog park about 100 yards from the SE corner of the the airport, but probably two miles away from where you'll be coming out of baggage claim. It's on the corner of Sunset Road and Eastern Ave. You can enter from either street about a block in either direction from that intersection. Look for dispensers on posts containing bags for picking up after her.

OK, I remembered I heard something about this a while back so I googled McCarran Airport and dogs and came up with this. Dog Jaunt : Pet relief area at Las Vegas airport (McCarran International) : Traveling with a small dog

Here's a useful site for dog travelers. Just click on the state map or scroll down to find your location: Pet Friendly Airports, Dog Friendly Airports, Pet Relief Area Airports

There is a "pet relief" area at the airport. It is a small, gated area on the same level as baggage claim. Just follow the signs. It's by no means a lush, grassy, oasis but it's a small little fenced in place for dogs to do their business. My parents traveled with a small dog and we brought him there as soon as he got off the plane.

Oh jeez, I didn't know that was meant for dogs. No wonder Metro follows me around at the airport.
