Hello,

I'm from San Diego and am thinking of moving to Las Vegas, due to the high high cost of living here in Southern California. Where dreams and home ownership is not possible any more. I like Vegas in general but don't know too much personally up close with the city, because I don't live there of course.

I do Commericial HVAC for a living and know I more than likely wouldn't have a problem finding a job. It's just that I have met people out here that were from Vegas and have heard Pro's and Con's about living there. I've heard people say that it gets depressing and tiring living there and the quality of life sucks. I've heard that it has a soaring extreme high crime rate and violent crime rate all around in general. I've also heard it's not a place to raise children, due to the wildness of the city. and last but not least, I've heard once people move there, that 80% of time they end up moving back to where they came from and the price of housing - homes/condos are exspensive and not afforadable anymore in the Vegas area.

Some of the good traits I've heard is that the pay scale is good for one. You can never get bored in the city of entertainment.. It is cheaper in general compared to Californicate. and most of the people who live there, just live normal life and work and enjoy a normal life. I've heard also most of the people who live there don't even go to the Casino's. That's the tourist thing to do. So I've just said a little of what I've heard through various people I've met. I've also thought of Phoenix if Vegas might not work out for me to relocate. Please give me your input and feedback I'd like to hear it.

well all tell you , San Diego is very expensive but a beautiful city . the housing in las Vegas is not much cheaper . its getting more expensive to live in las Vegas so if you like 120 heat unfriendly people and lots of traffic and considerably lower wages this would be the place to live then. i would consider other cities close by where the cost of living is a Little more affordable. that would be my opinion

Well I appreciate the feedback. Do you live in Vegas currently? Unfriendly people? I'm use to that. Most Californians are anti-social and not friendly. That's normal for California culture and life. So I atleast wouldn't have any problems with that Thanks again tho...

XFilemulder has trouble with English. Bear with him.

Cost of living is about 2/3 that of San Diego. Housing prices well less than half. People are people. Many, in fact, came from S. CA...me among them. The ones who came here are the friendly ones.

Join up you will love it. Your business is of course the most popular of all here.

I was in your boat in 2002. I moved from SF Bay area-Las Vegas and bought a home when it was still inexpensive. Bay area RE is untouchable for someone like me, so i decided to move to a city that is only hours away by car, has a good economy and housing is 1/5 the price of california (2003 standards). I am also in the swimming pool biz, so Vegas has the most swimming pools per capita in the US.. It was a perfect fit. The only big difference I can tell you is the weather.. even thought I work 100% of my day outdoors, the heat is not that bad, really the winters are worse for me. I was use to 60's in the summer back home so this place is hot! So, if you can live with the harsh summers then go for it! I also can add that since I moved here.. you will see a lot more of family that would never visit you when living in CA. Do your research and if your looking to buy a home, its a good time but its not as cheap as it was in 2002-03.

Where are you finding these unfriendly people? I can't find any. Not that I want to. And i've lived here 12 years.
Gotta laugh at the 120 heat. LOL. A day or two once every few years. That's actually more like Phoenix weather.

I lived in Las Vegas for 7 years. It did not feel like living a "Normal Life" while there. Las Vegas is a mecca for the world. Every walk of life there that attracts convicts, criminals & greed. Additionally has thee top crime rate in the country on top of that. The weather is miserable and not fun. Nothing is green and all of the vegetation present is entirely brown dry. Plus there's tons of weirdo people and foreigners everywhere in the city. It is also known for having the highest car theft rate in the entire country. So if you cherish your car then don't move there. I am just breaking it down for you SOCAL. The grass isn't greener on the other side. Vegas is plastic and fake and is a tourist trap for the world. Now you think that is a good quality of life?

Where do these one shot sock puppets come from?

It is true that Las Vegas has a high car theft rate.

The rest of this post is unmitigated garbage.

Yeah, I move here from Cleveland 5 yrs ago, but I've also spent a lot of time in Southern California. I think the main thing that you are going to need to get used to is the heat. San Diego is a very confortable place to live for most of the year. Vegas is usually either very hot or cold and the change between those two season seems to take only two or three weeks.

Socially, I don't think the people here are much different than anywhere else. Most of the natives or long time Vegas residents are very laid back and friendly. Californians seem to get a bad reputation here. Im not sure why; they are mostly known for being poor drivers and being a little pushy.

Yes, homes here are expensive, but thats all relative to where you are coming from. Compaired to the insanity of the Southern California real estate market, Vegas will seem cheap to you. For me, coming from Cleveland, it seems expensive. But with almost 30K houses on the market in the valley, you are bound to find something at a resonable price.

I rarely go to the casinos to hang out. I live in the Henderson area and there is plenty to do, places to eat, etc. Mostly, I go to a casino to see a concert. Some the best venues here in Vegas, (the Joint, House of Blues) for examples are in casinos. Just keep in mind that if you move here you will be living in gambling town. It's a huge part of life here. Most people are employed either directly or indirectly by the casinos, so if you have a problem with gambling or raising your children around gambling that should be the first red flag that maybe Vegas will not be a good fit for you.

Hope this helps a little. Im actually moving away, but only because I want to be a little closer to family; and I miss the water. I will always look back on the 5 years I spent here as some of the best times of my life. It truely is an incredible town. Like no other place on earth. It just has some strange quirks that may take time to get used to.
