Hi there. We're looking at rental properties in both communities and would appreciate your thoughts.

We like that guard-gated Los Prados offers mature landscaping and larger lots compared to the Beazer Homes parcel in Southern Highlands. Also, the house we're considering in Southern Highlands isn't in a gated area, and that concerns us. But, alas, Southern Highlands is a tad closer to the airport, which is one of our needs.

Also, would Los Prados get plane noise from the North Las Vegas Airport? It looks like it's in the flight pattern, but it may be far enough away that this doesn't matter.

Many thanks for your advice. Enjoy your weekend!

I lived on the other side of the wall from Los Prados, and since the great depression of 2008, I've wished we had stayed put, except the area is too close to not so good areas. I have friends on the golf course. I haven't seen the golf course in a while, but it never was very well kept. My daughter goes there all the time and I believe she has mentioned that too. You will get airplane noise just about anywhere in the Valley, but there you will mostly get the jets from Nellis. Usually they are pretty high by the time they get there, so it's not bad. I kind of enjoyed seeing them fly over. My ex-neighbor over there was an F-15e pilot, and he'd fly over our neighborhood on the way to the range and check things out using the electronics in the jet.

Since Los Prados is on the decline, age-wise, I'd look closer at Southern Highlands. Actually, I wouldn't look at either one. I'd look to the Northwest, or Summerlin, or Desert Shores, or Peccole Ranch.

I differ with Buzz on Los Prados. I will agree the golf course has always been less than ideal...but there are lots of homes in Los Prados in excellent shape. It is a community that has reached the age where the place needs redoing or it is hopeless dated and out of style.

But there are lots of very nice ones that have been updated. Overall I see very little degradation in there. People are picking up the outdated ones and projects houses.

The Beazer houses are three foot clearances and started out way to high with renters. They are not getting any better.
