I am considering a move to Las Vegas. I currently live in Minneapolis but my folks are now gone and the house is up for sale. I've traveled quite a bit in my 55 years and have been to Laughlin many times and Vegas 3 times. I've always stayed at the Stratosphere so I am familiar with that area.

I realize this question has been asked about a hundred times but any recomendations on areas to live? I was in Vegas a month ago and walked from the Strat to Mandalay Bay one morning and then back to the Strat through the residential part of town. Some areas were nice and some downright cruddy but I never felt threatened. Saw some very nice folks and some pretty creepy ones as well. At 6'4" and 250lbs people tend to leave me alone unless they want a buck or want to bum a cigarette. I usually oblige.

I want to rent not buy. Just looking for a quiet area where I'll be left alone. I haved lived in my apartment for 22 years and don't know a single neighbor.

Distance to anything is not important to me. I find a place to live that I like or a bar to go to and that's it.

I'm not rich but I'm not poor. I even considered moving into one of those rent by the week motels I see everywhere but I have my own furniture and have grown accustomed to it. I don't want to live in a place that rents month to month to gangbangers.

At 55 years old I also qualify for senior housing in some areas...that's a ***** since I could pass for 45.

Any advice is valued. Thanks.

Reed

Through my searching, it seems like the west and the northwest (like above poster mentioned) is the way to go. IMO, Summerlim & Centennial Hills are areas to look into

Good luck!

run, dont walk away from any '55+' community
My suggestion, is to buy a house, since you can get houses cheap now, and make it your home.
why spend $1000 a month in a apartment, when for $60k you can buy a house?
want a pool add another 25k, want a better area add 10k more. - all of it affordable

you don't have to be rich, to live richly

a 60k is not going to happen in a good area.. neither is 70k... A condo or townhouse possibly.
For a pool home in a decent (not the best) area, 130ish and up

I moved here from Big Lake(n of mpls). You will most likely love it here.

I wouldn't live in the alphabet streets but that's about it. If I were a single male, I would think about renting in the lofts or highrise apts close to Fremont Street. Easy walking to lots of places.

Or, as the others said, consider buying. Housing is a bargain now.

If you want quiet than Summerlin or Henderson is what you want.
