I have two sliding doors that go out to the pool, and I keep breaking the vertical blinds, going in and out (yes, I open them before I ingress)

I was thinking about applying some kind of solar screen to the glass window, and removing the blind completely.

Is this possible? or does anyone have any other ideas?

Jonathan

I tried the DIY solar film stuff. It worked but it looked like crap. I tried but I just couldn't get it perfect. I gave up and put in French doors with low e glass and got rid of the blinds and the sliding door.

I have learned since that professional installation does the trick. But I don't know for sure.

Default window film

I've had good experiences with 3M film. It is not DIY, though.

There are all kinds of professional winder tinters around town that would do a good job, and it's relatively cheep. But the French door idea is probably best. It would be mas bonita, and, unless the doors face south or west, it would work well. I hired a carpenter that does maintenance at a casino to change out our sliding glass doors (in our previous home), for French doors. We were really happy with the conversion, and it didn't cost that much either.

I really like mine too. It was a good decision. I also think they lock better and are more secure than sliders.

Diddo on this. I got a bid on my house to tint all the windows and based on the film quality it was either $3.50, 4.50 or 9.50 per sq foot installed. ($2 per sq foot for install) You can also pick up a solar screen sliding door at Lowes/HD for $60ish.
