Hello,

I'm just wondering if someone can recommend a good documentary about Las Vegas, something which gives an insight look into the world of casinos, features LV history, the development of the city etc. I'm not interested in a travel documentary or LV visitor's office video.

Thank you

This is probably what you want.

he Story of Classic Las Vegas: A Documentary Film

I have both DVDs. You can get them at the State Museum, but I didn't look to see if you can order them online. Not sure if the State Museum has moved to the new building at the Springs Preserve, or if it is still at Lorenzi Park.

This is a good one:

American Experience | Las Vegas: An Unconventional History | PBS

It goes through the entire history of Vegas and ends in 2006 during the height of the real estate boom. Aside from the very interesting mobster history I thought the real estate/bubble growth portion of the documentary was just as interesting (although at the time people may have not taken too much notice):

One cleaning lady mentions "you can buy a house the way you want it for no money down" like its some kind of Burger King meal deal

A real estate agent mentions flipping houses for 2x the price each year.

A long time Las Vegas native complains that developers are not growing communities properly, while riding his horse past some McMansions.

Oops. Same thing. Sorry. They used to run continuously at the museum, so maybe you can see them there for the free. Nevada State Museum, Las Vegas
