I disagree. I make mine with sourdough starter that's almost as old as I am and buttermilk. I'll put that up against anything that comes out of a Carbon's Golden Malted box any day. (Most places use Carbon's for their waffles and pancakes.)

Grade B maple on institutional pancakes is NOT my kind of breakfast.

But this thread is about restaurant recommendations for pancakes, NOT making them at home.

And if I ever find any at a restaurant that even come close to what I can make at home, I'll be sure to mention it.

Restaurants are never going to do pancakes right because it costs too much to do so. Why keep a sourdough starter alive and keep real buttermilk on hand when the cooks can just open a sack of Golden Malted?

Maybe I'll try this Babystacks place. They say they make their batter from scratch. That's a good sign. But it's hard to justify driving across town and paying $5 for three pancakes. [mod cut-- off topic]

Agree 100%. Got any names? We've been known to take our own maple syrple to breakfast restaurants.
