To the OP, I should note that I'm kindof in your boat too, since commute is not an issue for me or my fiancee, we like spending time outdoors, and our pricepoint is similar to yours (though for a mortgage, not renting). We live in the Northern part of 89143. It's close to both Floyd Lamb Park, open desert, and about as close as you can get within LV to Mt. Charleston. We like it here.
