We used First American Title in August and they did pretty well. There were a few kinks, but I'm pretty sure it was due to our lender's incompetence. They even gave us some sort of special discount on their portion of the closing costs since we were first time home buyers.

Your question is probably not answerable...at least not to a civilian.

In general title service from the first line operations is quite acceptable. This includes FAT. The big variable is the particular escrow officer. I have had three or four deals with FAT. All worked. I do not like FAT...they do too much REO work where they favor the high volume REO agents. However I don't complain as they get the job done.

They will get no work from me when the REO stuff goes to normal and I control the title company.

On the other hand I have a list of four Escrow Officers who I will block from any buyer I represent. No one from FAT is on that list.
