I'd appreciate any recommendations on sports books/sports bars preferably on the strip(but not a requirement) to watch sports. I don't plan on betting so I need a place to actually just sit/eat/drink and watch the games(college basketball).

thanks for any help.

Where not to watch sports, that's more the question.

Vegas is the bombest sports watching city in the universe.

You could go for the holy grail. ESPN sports zone located at New York, New York across from Mgm and Excaliber. Being this is playoff weekend the line to get in probably started at 5:30 am so that might be hard to get into.

The real hard core fans will be out at the Cannery but since you wanted to stay on the strip. You can go to any sports book and I mean any of them and it is going to be poppin.

Actually Sahara has a really bad one :P

If you don't care to gamble(which seems silly) You could go to a place like Cheetah's for a Football party. Good times at that place on gamedays :-)

I like little Caesars sports book a whole lot.
Imperial palace believe it or not.

Aria has a pretty impressive place.

Any of them are going to be crowded and fun to be at today.

I mainly go off strip you know, seems like the more professional gambler goes to a station casino but that's just me. Aliante or Redrock.

Oh I just noticed the not betting part. Yeah try Cheetahs. You don't have to even talk to the girls but that place is fun. They probably having a drink and food special for the day as they usually do for big game days.

Why not gamble may I ask?

I just ask because many people don't because they are uncomfortable novices, but placing a simple bet is pretty straight forward. There is always someone at the sports book area that will tell you more than you ever wanted to know about placing bets.

Small wagers of just 2 bucks can add a whole new level of intrigue to a big game.

second half betting always keeps the fun alive!!

ESPN Zone closed last summer.

No way?

That's insane.

That place was always packed.

Oh well they charged to much and made you spend a minimum an hour to keep a table.

Thanks Exaday...you pretty much nailed it for me. I just don't want to look like an idiot and throw away money.

We are staying at NYNY and the place that replaced ESPN Zone is another sports bar so maybe that would work.

You can go to any sports book and it will be a blast. Go check out the lines on the games this weekend. I assume you already sort of know how the spreads work.

You can tell the person at the booth what you want. For instance if you tell him you wanted the Ravens today.

He will give you a ticket for the Ravens +/- the spread.

You can take the moneyline as well. You tell him you want the Ravens on the money line and he gives you a ticket for the ravens to win. Instead of playing against the spread you're saying you think they will win outright and you get odds on.

Next there is the Over and under. With this you are just playing against the house on total combined score.

All these bets can be placed for just a half or the whole game. Most places don't let you make second half bets till after the first half. This can make being at the sports book very exciting as it will add thrill to those boring blowout games.

You can also combine "parlay" all of these types of bets to increase your odds.

So let's just say I wanted to bet the Ravens who are +3.5 against the Steelers. The over and under is 37 points.

I think the Steelers are going to win the first half but the Ravens will win the second half and the game. I also think they will score over 37 points.

So I go to the counter and tell the dude I want the Steelers to win the first half(spread), the Ravens on the Money line and the over.

That would be a 3 team parlay on just one game. You can combine games bets and even sports if you want to do it like that.

Just start simple with only a couple of bucks or something. Remember to bet the second half during half time.

Oh and I guess I'm not overly fond of the NYNY sportsbook or at least back in the day when ESPN was there. MGM has a better one.

I was nervous the first couple times I placed a bet. Now, the first thing I do when I go to Vegas is look and see where the +/- lines are at. It can add a lot of fun to an evening.

There are websites for sportsbook lingo.

I will give some quick advice on making your betting go much smoother. When you get to the tellers window know what the betting number is that you want. Each game and type of bet is assigned one. Weekends there can be hundreds of college basketball games on the board with long lines of very impatient betters. The tellers put the bets in via rotation numbers not by team names. Plus the teller is looking forward away from the board. Also tellers will be happy to help you with any questions as long as there are no long lines. Ex. 2 minutes before kick off or tip off and during halftimes.
