If you call WAY ahead to a restaurant that has a real chef and that old-school ambiance you're after (or go in person in the early afternoon) -- sometimes a chef will be willing to do a special meal just for you if you explain what and why. Just don't go to an Italian place and ask for Mexican or expect them to do it at a super-busy time. A good restaurant aims to please.

I used to arrange corporate parties and most of the places I worked with would prepare just about anything not on the menu as long as they had enough lead-time and it wasn't too hard to get the ingredients. It's really not much different than a chef preparing a meal off-menu for a diner on a special diet. And, needless to say, tip like you're on an expense account.

I think it would be lovely to be taken to a restaurant and a meal would be delivered to the table as if we were special guests who were expected. Romantic and classy. Happy anniversary.
