I interviewed with my manager on Wednesday the 4th. He called me that evening to inform me I had impressed him and offered me the job. I was told that someone from HR would contact me in a couple days. On Tuesday the 10th I called to follow up because I hadn't heard from HR. He told me the background check process could take a little bit and not to worry. Its now the 16th and still haven't heard. How long does this process take? My bank account is starting to hurt and I'm getting worries. Thanks.

I agree with Airics, it should not take this long.

I concur, it takes a while to get an offer. Took me nearly 2 months after my final interview which I turned down because I took over the operations side of my business.

It took me less then a week and I was in Costa Rica. I would contact the manager you interviewed with and go into HR.

At MGM Grand, it can take around 2 months from first interview to orientation. I kept losing hope, then I'd be surprised when I heard from them. Applications have to get passed between the departments and the lag time can really slow things down. And don't underestimate how massively disorganized they are. In the F&B departments the management turnover rate is astounding so no one really knows what is going on. So, I would suggest being patient. Good luck.

That tells me they are badly managed. Are you sure you wanna work at a badly managed place? It takes about 20 minutes to do a background and credit check on anybody. Do they not have the internet over there?

No they still use the carrier pigeon system. Just because MGM/Mirage is screwed up internally. It still provides a paycheck and pays pretty close to the top end of the industry.

Having dealt with this at other large companies you just have to relax and accept this is what happens on a regular basis. When a large company makes an offer they are loath to rescind it because they stand a chance of getting sued. What usually gets stuck in HR is your position and pay. Depending on position they might have to reconcile your title and pay with dozens of current employees and this can take weeks. Seems like a no brainer, your boss wants you and knows what you should get paid, but if its not done in an exact manner then it opens up a political infighting mess. Just wait until you come up for a promotion, people who have no connection to you whatsoever can keep you from getting promoted for years because its all part of the corporate budget and HR oversight.
