Can someone tell me what the deal is with Pre-K in Cruces? I will be relocating my family in the fall 2010, and have a soon-to-be 4 year old daughter. It seems as though, through my research, that many elementary schools have Pre-K programs. Is that true? Are they free? Any recommendations for particular schools? Any Spanish immersion programs?

Thanks!

The whole state of New Mexico has Pre-Kindergarten, this might help: https://www.newmexicoprek.org/

My Grand Daughter had it about five years ago, as I recall it was free and voluntary. She did not attend in the Las Cruces area.

My sister drives a school bus in Las Cruces. She just told me she had a mid-day run for 3 and 4 yr olds yesterday. I didn't know they did that. Cool!

Actually the only pre-k classes offered through the public schools are for developmentally delayed children. I have 4 kids and 2 of them have been involved with these programs for speech delays. The bus does pick up these kids and the programs are for 3 to 5 year olds. Otherwise, you would have to look for a private preschool program and I do believe that there is one preschool in town that does a free preschool program that you can apply for. It's a pre-k program and I think it's through Children's Garden and state funded. I don't believe it's income based.

I think Children's Garden is the only free one in Las Cruces, My daughter was on the list but due to a family emergency we could start her and so they gave her spot to another child. but i have looked around, too. I think one of the catholic schools had a pre-k as well.
