LaserShield is moving its distribution center to Las Cruces which will add 80 new permanent jobs and 100 construction jobs. Also once built they will add another 40 on top of the 80 for a customer service center. These numbers could expand in the future. This will be at the west side industrial park on the west mesa.

Reported by Rick Holmans NM Economic Developement Director.

Your Welcome...I keep up on all the economics around the state especially Southern NM. Couple more notes on LC and that the city council approved a surcharge on motel/hotel rooms to pay for the new Convention Center to be built at NMSU and they are studing the new Arena site on the west mesa. Also the new Federal Courthouse building downtown is under construction as is the new City Hall and other downtown projects. NMSU has over a 150 million in new construction going on or getting ready to start. Sen. Bingaman is trying to get federal money for a new Interchange at I-10 and I-25 (Big-I). The Spaceport tax is coming up and if approved that ought to really help in bringing in High Tech companies. TorC is already Booming from this. The 4th High School is in the planning stages for construction on the east mesa area over by Mountain View hospital.

Thank you Harry O for such important news about Las Cruces and Southern NM, I haven't moved there yet but I already feel part of it and willing to contribute to its progress. I always keep in mind those famous words by JFK.

Your welcome Tito....Welcome to the ''old west'' whether its the arts in Mesilla or all the Ghost Towns in the region, the rugged mountains to hike, mountain bike or horseback ride, close to the largest lake in NM which is Elephant Butte and third largest Caballo lake, a hometown university NMSU and a Space Port being built etc..etc...

My only beef about it is the wages are lower than ABQ and the national average but hopefully in time it will improve for us still making a living. On the positive i'm sure the retirees like the lower cost of living.

Default Retirees and lower cost of living

I think that lower cost of living is why retirees are flocking to NM. Some people believe NM will replace Arizona and Florida as THE retirement destination
