I received a speeding ticket doing 36mph in a 20mph school zone. This area is normally 40mph and I go through it almost everyday but normally not when it has the flashing lights. I admit what I did was wrong, but I had a clean record prior to this incident.

If I go before the court what is the chances that I will be given judicial relief? I'm willing to pay extra court fees but I'm trying to get this off my driving record. I'm willing to go to driving school and all that. Any advice?

My husband got a ticket for doing 42 mph in a 30. He paid a fine and they put him on probation for three months. No kidding, probation. How funny is that? Well, if he has no other violations, then they will drop it in three months and it doesn't go on the insurance record. He said the judge was doing this with a lot of people including a bunch of them that had loose dog violations.

Of course, speeding in a school zone, you may not be eligible.

Yes, the school zone thing is the thing that I think kills it. It's just so frustrating because I go through it everyday but never when the lights are flashing. School was already in session so nobody was out and about so I just spaced it out. I really think its going to be tough because school zones and construction zones are the ones I would think the courts would be very firm on.

YOu will probably be able to get traffic school, but it will cost you. School zone tickets are bad ones to get.

I actually looked at the Knoxville website and it states "You may sign-up for a Defensive Driving Course to keep 'points' off of your Motor Vehicle Driving Record (MVR) without going into the Courtroom. (See TRAFFIC SCHOOL for details.) " So looks like I'll get my punishment by going to be traffic school for 8 hours and having to pay my fees. Just wanted to post this for anyone else that runs into a similar situation.

How about this? Do an online Defensive Driving Course!

I've known people to do it in Texas...and I think Florida. I just don't know enough Tennessee people to know if it's available here.

How did this turn out? And, how much did it end up costing? I got a ticket for 32 in 20 MPH school zone.

I recently got my first ever ticket (rolling through a stop sign), but it was from a state trooper, not KPD. The state tickets seem more expensive, less flexible on payment, and are handled at general sessions court instead of city court. The city court website is very informative, but doesn't apply to the state tickets, unfortunately. Just thought I'd point it out (might save someone a few minutes).

Radian 23: The SAME thing happened to me, except I was going 35 in a 20mph school zone. SO frustrating. Did they let you do defensive driving? Does anyone else know what will happen?
