Would like to know about the city Oak Ridge, TN. Have heard it is nice homes, but near a HUGE sewage dump and a few other things that make the town maybe not all that "desireable". I am retired, no kids, don't need to be near Mall/down town etc.But don't want to be around things like a sewage dump or other problematic issues. Any comments?

You can probably learn a lot about Oak Ridge, just by using Google. I'm not aware of a HUGE sewage dump in Oak Ridge. Ive one;y lived here 25 years, so maybe I have just missed it.

I do google things but I find often, what is there is not always "as it really is". I read, but it is much more informant to hear from those that have "Been there, done that" and what their experiences were etc. No town is going to put on Google.. "don't live here.. we have a huge sewage plant that stinks the entire city" or most anything else that is derogatory to the town, if you know what I mean.

Huge sewage dump?? Never heard of that. What Oak Ridge is known for is its role in the Manhattan project during ww2. The lab and y12 are still huge parts of the cities economy. Other than the government facilities Oak Ridge is a standard mid sized town. All the standard shopping and restaurants are there, it is a clean town with good schools. Knoxville is a 20 min drive. We go to Oak Ridge often for shopping and entertainment. I can’t think of anything bad to say about it really. The part Oak Ridge played in winning World War Two is a point of regional pride in East Tennessee...if you visit you can check out the museum as it will fully inform you on what happened in Oak Ridge during WW2.

The sewer plant that stinks up the entire city is not listed on Google, because it does not exist. I'm curious where you heard such a ridiculous rumor.

I wonder if the OP is thinking of the Kingston ash spill. The phrase "waste dump" got filed under sewer dump in her mind? I can see it happen. No the Ash spill would have no effect on Oak Ridge, being downstream and all. But someone who is nervous about environmental problems will be better off somewhere else.
