Quick question...can you get your driver's license and register your car at the same place? Thanks!

Nope. State does the DL's and County does the car registration.

I guess I should have placed a disclaimer in my post that in some locations in some areas in TN one can do one stop shopping. However, I answered Lilcabingrl specifically as I know where she is. Even having to go to two places it is a dream around here. I had to go get new tags last week and even though I am in Blount County, it was a dream experience compared to some places.

On a separate note, did you all know that you now have to make appointments for some drivers license activities? When my youngest got his license he had to have an appointment and it had to be made well in advance of his 16th birthday! That was a change from his brothers experience two years earlier.

I remember going to motor vehicle in NJ and you had to pack a lunch! To spend two hours or more there was common and I dreaded it. Then we had to have our cars inspected every year too, which was a major drag. Sitting in your car for hours waiting to get inspected. I think it's every two years now or something like that. I wiped the memory from my brain.

If you are lucky enough to live in a county without a wheel tax, you can usually get your tags at most any county clerk's office. It doesn't have to be your own county. However, if you are unlucky enough to reside in a county with the wheel tax, like Knox, you probably will have to get the tags at your home county clerk's office.

Which is yet another reason the wheel tax sucks.
