Hello, I see that a lot of people on this thread that moved to Knoxville area. We're looking to move from suburbs of Chicago. We're looking to get away from the big city and live in more rural area with some acreage and near the beautiful mountains.
We went on a scouting trip back in June and loved the area, people were very nice and friendly and the area is beautiful.

I was wondering your thoughts about your move. Where did you move from and are locals open to welcoming newcomers from different states. My husband and I are Polish - we both came to Chicago when we were still kids. How are the kids in schools - are they open and welcoming to new kids coming from different areas? We have 4 kids ages 13, 10, 7 and 5.

What was your experience moving here? Any positive or negative experiences?

We moved last October from Northern Mississippi to the Maryville area. We are orginally from Upstate NY and lived 17 years in PA.

With multiple moves in the past, we have learned that everywhere you live is what you make of it.

We think people in Eastern TN are very friendly and open to others. There are many things we love about the area. This is a great area for outdoor recreation and Knoxville is large enough to find good restaurants and culture. The weather appeals to us since winters are mild and both spring and fall wonderful. Summer's are hot and humid.

Our children are all adults so we can't provide information on that.

Best of luck with your decision.

Smile Love it!!!

My wife and I relocated to Knoxville earlier this year and we love the city! Looking forward to hiking in the fall. Great people and lots of places to eat and drink! It will be nice to not be in Michigan this winter.

Me and my wife went scouting in March. Absolutely love the area of Maryville. People seemed nice, grocery costs were lower than what we were used to and scenery. The scenery!!! That alone would make up for any bad things that come with the area. Mountains to hike in, fishing, the history...

We are anxiously waiting to sell our place in Louisiana to begin a new life around this area.

My wife and I moved here from SoCl. The people have been very friendly and welcoming. Yes there are some o f the old stereotypes around, but they are fading. My biggest problem is the air pollution which I thought I left behind, and didn't.

My wife and I are also from the suburbs of Chicago, and are down in Knoxville right now looking at homes. Today will be our third day of home shopping, and we couldn't be more excited by our plan to move here.

The people are terrific, the scenery is beautiful, the prices/taxes are far more reasonable than Northern Illinois, and our Granddaughters live right over near Asheville.

Once we have our plan nailed down, I will start my own thread.

Later,
Bob T.
