Look to move from Arizona to one of these communities with my wife and two boys (15 &11). would you compare and contrast Maryville and Farragut?

Maryville is an older town, a lot of natives live there, I consider it a pretty tight conservative community with lots of people knowing each other. Farragut is a newer town simply because of all the growth in the last 10-15 years. Many many transplants. It's the "rich" area. More traffic. If you seek diversity of any kind, you'll find it there.

Interesting, I had the feeling it was the opposite, that Maryville was a newer, up and coming town, and Farragut was the older community. Shows you what I know.

We are jewish and Farragut seems a bit closer to the JCC and a few of the temples. But map distance and real time driving are separate entities.

Also where you work can affect where you would want to live because of the commute. I like both areas but we settled for the Northshore between the two areas. You really cannot go wrong with either area, they are both lovely. Have you visited yet? You should do so if you have not. Farragut is tops for academics but Maryville is up there too. I heard Oak Ridge has a good Jewish community too.

I have not been there yet, but am planning a weekend trip soon.

My job would be in Serierville, My Boys are excelling in a great school in honors classes, so my search is centered around the best schools I can find (middle and High school). My wife will probably spend time in the city (artsy areas), and I do not mind driving to keep everyone happy.

Dude, you do not want to be driving from Farragut to Sevierville. That's an hour extra each day you could be spending with the kids.

If you want to live in Farragut get a job in Farragut, west Knoxville or Oak Ridge.

I am very familiar with all three cities and have had children in two of the school systems. Maryville schools outrank Farragut but you do not, repeat do not, want to drive from either Farragut or Maryville to Sevierville for work.

You will be pleased enough with Sevier County High School.

This link is to a post by JMT on the Tennessee forum. The Maryville School District is rated the best in the state.

Check out Seymour. Maybe you could drive your kids to Maryville schools if you don't like Seymour schools (I live in Seymour but don't have kids). FYI, depending what part of Sevierville you're in, drive time from downtown Knoxville is 40-45 minutes. Also think about Kodak - there isn't much there, but it's closer to 40. Traffic on 66 gets really bad on weekends though, you have to know when to avoid it.

P.S. After 9 years here I still have never met a Jewish person in Maryville.

Since the OP wants to be active in a Jewish community, Sequoyah hills may be the best compromise. At least it's mostly a reverse commute. If buying there isn't in the budget you might find townhouses for rent. Or anywhere in the west zone. After a year the kid will have graduated and you will have had time to scope out neighborhoods without schools being an issue.
