My husband and I may have a chance to fly out for a look-see. He'd be working in Venore if they offer and we accept. Please tell me some must-see places good and bad. Things like museums, library, parks the y and restaurants. Being boat owners, my DH likes to scout out boat ramps. Thank you

zfam, check out another post on this forum for ideas. There is so much to do!

If I were you and trying to get a feel for the area, I would have dinner downtown Market Square on Thursday or Friday to get a feel for Knoxville life and maybe venture into the Old City if you have time (weekend parking is free at the Market Square garage on Walnut).

I would also spend a few hours in Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge so you can see what brings tourists this way. Also on the list would be a drive through Cades Cove (where lots of weekends can be spent hiking, tubing, etc.) If you're into cultural events, Knoxville Symphony, Bijou Theatre, Tennessee Theatre, Clarence Brown Theater, and Clayton Center are calendars to check.

I would also go onto Linked Local Knoxville or Networking in Knoxville groups on Linkedin, ask about the area (specifically lakes and boating), and identify others with boats to get the skinny on where to live/dock.
