Hello, I'm thinking of moving from New Orleans to Knoxville. I currently wait tables at a very popular and somewhat fancy breakfast place and make great money ($150-300/shift, pretty swell for slinging eggs and coffee). I know I'd make less in Knoxville, it not being the tourist/booze mecca that New Orleans is, but HOW MUCH less? I have over ten years restaurant experience in high-end and busy spots, so if there's anywhere in town that's consistently busy and expensive, I'd stand a good chance of landing a spot. I have less bar experience, but that's also an option. Should I instead consider going back to mental health/social services work if I move? I've also done a bit of that... Thanks!

There are high end places that would bring higher tips. Also there is a large tourist area in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, but I have no idea how tips are over there. (its 30 miles away)

It has been the general consensus from the people that I know - and sometimes the people that have been on here - that this area, and especially the Sevier County tourist area, is notoriously stingy when it comes to tipping.
