How is the economy doing in Knoxville? Decent? Bad? Recovering? Great?

It's better than the Tri-Cities, which I responded to earlier, but by no means booming. If you're coming from the Tri-Cities or some other similarly depressed region, it looks healthy. If you are coming from a rich, prosperous coastal area, the salaries for most jobs (if you need them) are likely to be puny, even accounting for Knoxville's low cost of living.

For instance, I work for a company based out of Boston but live in Indiana. I don't make what I would in Boston, but make $20k more than any company I've ever interviewed for in Knoxville. My salary would probably be 250%-300% in Boston compared to what I could make in Knoxville. While Knoxville is cheap, the absurdly low wages for most professionals, outside of medical and education, make it still a comparatively expensive place to live.

Others on this forum will have a very different opinion. My personal opinion is that if jobs are of any concern, Knoxville is most likely to be a poor option for most folks, in spite of its fabled low cost of living, because the wages are just in the toilet.
