Hello!

I am so happy to have located this site as it has provided a wealth of information for my family and I. My husband has been given military orders (active duty) to one of the Universities in the Knoxville area as an instructor and we will be moving to Knoxville from Japan. I have done searches within the forum on employment and jobs, but I was hoping someone could give some specifics on the job market regarding social services and public health. I have a B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Business as well as working on my last year of of a double masters in Public Health and Marriage and Family Therapy. I currently work for the US Army (federal employee) in the Army's sexual harassment/assault prevention program, but have over 10 years with social services (non for profits, universities, and child welfare) and a wealth of time in volunteer leadership positions over the past 17 years. I also have extensive experience in training and education.

I realize that my current salary is not an expectation for any new positions in Knoxville, but I love my career field and want to continue to grow in it. If anyone has any insight on the job market or salary expectations here in the social services or public health field it would be much appreciated! I have of course checked usajobs, indeed.com, local non for profits, hospitals, and am exploring corporate positions regarding social responsibility, but after reading that networking is imperative in Knoxville I am open to any suggestions! Thank you all very much in advance for all your help!

There are many government jobs in Oak Ridge, although I don't know how many, if any, would be in your field.

There are numerous hospitals and healthcare groups in Knoxville, but the best place to start may be Helen Ross McNabb Center |. Even if they don't have any positions available, they might send you in the right direction.

Networking is good idea, no matter where you live, but it is not imperative in Knoxville.

1. Salaries listed on the internet are not accurate.
2. Most positions require experience in that field.
I think your experience can land you a job in Public Health. I have just graduated with a B.S. in Public Health, and there are no jobs in my town without experience. I think your passion, being a military wife, going to grad school will all help. Good luck!

Brandi was last signed in on 5-14. I wonder if she is in her actual move from Japan.
