I'm really excited to see the Sprouts. I've heard good things about it and it will be nice to have another option. Trader Joe's only works for me with niche items and EarthFare sadly isn't quite Whole Foods. It does seem like the Whole Foods is kind of dragging its feet.

Im excited about Sprouts as well. I, too, enjoy having all of the options to choose from, it's nice to mix it up.

Funny to hear you say that. I'm in Memphis now and I miss Earth Fare terribly. Whole Foods just ... doesn't cut it. I would trade all the Whole Foods & Fresh Markets in Memphis for one Earth Fare!

I dont know what the difference between the two is really. I used to go into Whole Foods in NYC infrequently, so that lends to my inability to differentiate. Jabo, perhaps you could help me?

I'm just glad to have Trader Joes here. I love it the most.

The biggest difference I've seen is the variety of produce. I've been to Knoxville's Kingston Pike Earthfare around Deane Hill a few times, and while it's better than Johnson City's, it is a far cry from Greenville, SC or Des Moines' Whole Foods in season. There just doesn't seem to be the variety nor the quality in produce. Meat, frozen, and nonperishables are a toss-up. I don't usually buy anything but fresh items from organic grocers.

The meals on the bar are another substantial difference. I have rarely seen a decent meal on the hot bar at the Johnson City Earthfare. Salads are also lacking. I've never eaten at the Knoxville Earthfare, but at $7.99/lb on the hot bar (what I've most frequently paid), I've grabbed a small piece of meat, two vegetables, and water cup at Whole Foods for under $5 in Greenville and Des Moines. It's an excellent value for a single person - no waste, no preparation, and no cleanup. I ate at the Whole Foods bar a lot, as there was always a variety of food, and often cheaper than me buying the same ingredients in the store, cooking them, then getting tired of eating the same thing. If I want to pig out and eat a whole pound, I can cheaply. I'd rate the Whole Foods hot bar considerably above most sit down buffet style establishments as long as you get there when the food is fresh.

There's a new TVA Credit Union branch opening in Turkey Creek. While that news isnt too exciting to most, there's a smaller building thats been going up next door that has been a mystery. I found out tonight that it will be a Panda Express. It, and the new one opening on Cumberland Ave, brings this Asian restaurant to the Knoxville area. Here's the menu....

Panda Express | Chinese Food, Wok-Cooked and Served Fast

Glad to know that PE is going to be in Knoxville/Farragut. They have locations in the Memphis, Nashville and Chattanooga areas for several years now.

I think I'll stop by PE for lunch tomorrow. (I am in Atlanta.)

I'm glad to hear these new stores are opening in our (hopefully) soon to be new residence!
We've got Sprouts, go to it usually once a week. They're a smaller version of Whole Foods, better prices and way better sales. Sprouts puts out their ad sheets once a week and on Wed when the ad ends and the new one begins they honor BOTH ads. They have a senior discount day and a whole section of the store set for bulk items in bins, everything from flour to chocolate covered dried fruit. They just had a sale on Pineapple, $1 ea and a bulk sale of 25% off.
Panda Express is ok, nothing to write home about but Pot Belly Deli is one of our "must haves"!
Good news for sure, enjoy!
