I would stay somewhere downtown, Oliver Hotel and Hilton are on the high end - although not sky-high like most other cities - or try the Holiday Inn or Hampton. Walk around Martket Square, possibly eating Tupelo Honey, Tomato Head, Shuck on North Gay for great seafood.

Check metropulse.com to see if there is a show you'd like at the Tennessee or Bijou theaters. There are a dozen restaurants on Market square - pick one that appeals to you and sit on the patio for some great people watching. Wander around Krutch park and look at the sculptures.
