Hi, My husband is applying for a sales job in the Southern Kentucky territory. Can someone tell me what areas this incorporates and which areas would be good for us if possible. We are looking to possibly rent before buying, and would maybe be able to spend 600-800/month depending on how his salary will change. To buy, we would like 200-250k range. Would like to have an acre or so. Would like low crime area, and an area that is small town somewhat and good for kids. Would consider public schools if they are good or homeschooling. Are there any areas like this? I would also like to have hilly or mountainous areas and water of some kind nearby. I hope someone can help. I did a search on this forum for southern Kentucky, but it was difficult to find that info. Thanks!

Could you define Southern Kentucky? Do you mean the Bowling Green/Glasgow area? or the London/Somerset/Corbin area or the Hopkinsville area? My answer would depend on which area you mean.

Hmmmm, if I had to guess, I would say they're talking about the Bowling Green/Glasgow area. Further east they generally say Southeast Kentucky and further west they call it Western Kentucky.

I'd venture to guess that they are talking about the Bowling Green area. If so, I think you would like it there. No real mountains, but rolling hills make up the landscape. There are several rivers ie Green and Barren, as well as a few lakes in the region. I bought 4 acres on the Green River a few years back and intend to build in the next few years. Public schools are pretty good in most areas, cost of living is low, and people are generally very friendly. Good luck!

Thanks, I will check out those areas! How far is Bowling Green from Glasgow or other smallish surrounding towns?

Glasgow is roughly a half-hour from Bowling Green via I-65 and the Cumberland Parkway.

Does the job ad have a local phone number? (not a toll-free-number). The phone area code (270) or (859) and prefix could indicate where the job is. Of course, the phone number might be a headhunter or hiring agency in another city.

Glasgow would be a good choice. About a couple of years ago, I interviewed for a job there and came close to accepting. It's a wonderful town and it is on the short list of towns I might move to within Kentucky.

Also, as to small towns in the area, depending on how small you want to go, I would throw the names of Jamestown/Russell Springs (They are pretty close to each other) out for consideration.
