Moving to Kentucky and looking for a place within 30minutes of a city preferably Louisville or Lexington. Considering Frankfort however have never been. We are looking for somewhere with land like more than 10 acres and a 3+ bedroom house. Low crime rate and plenty to do outdoors for out three boys. Any advice would help. Thank you

Oldham County. Without a question. It has the best school district in the state. In general, land will get cheaper the farther north and east you get away from Louisville, close to the Henry County line. But stay in Oldham for the schools and outstanding bucolic rolling hill look. The area north and east of La Grange, KY would suit you well, and there is a very substantial and growing number of NE transplants in that area.

Also, Shelby County would be a great option as land is still very cheap. I am thinking somewhere outside Simpsonville, KY would be ideal for you.

Welcome! Carlisle is about an hour north of Lexington. Not much in Carlisle, not sure if it even has a Walmart! You'd probably do your shopping in Cynthiana.
I would suggest a trip to see the different areas of Louisville and Lexington. We found that riding around with a RE agent was a great way to get a feel for the different areas and most RE agents are a good source of info about schools, town ordinances, taxes, and other location details.
Have no fear, you will find everything you want here in KY!!

You might want to consider Bardstown, Kentucky whom Rand McNally and US Today chose as the Most Beautiful Small Town in America.

Bardstown

I love Lexington, in the heart of the Bluegrass Horse Country - and we are surrounded by a bunch of awesome little towns!

...ofcourse, I could go on and on...there is Wilmore, Midway, Georgetown, etc.

Never been to Carlisle, so I don't know....there is a Youtube video taken there, it's long (over 20 min) so I don't have time to watch, but will leave the link to you.
