Danville is 20-40 mins farther southeast than I'd like, but seems to be a clear winner otherwise. Still, I was wondering if I could get some input on other towns that aren't as far away.

I actually prefer to be in a rural area, so I can have a yard with quiet and privacy, but it's hard to find the right little house within budget. Therefore I may end up renting an apartment/townhouse meaning I probably have to be in a town.

Online I rarely see rentals in Taylorsville and Mt Washington, but I think those towns would be ideal if I could find a place. Those two seem more expensive.

I'm sure the towns will have the basic necessary stores, and I don't go out much. Don't care about job/schools, but do care about it being low crime. I don't know what else I should consider.

How do you like to spend your free time? That might be a major consideration in your projected move. What sort of cultural opportunities exist in each of these places which might be of interest to you? What sort of church communities can be found? What's local government like? How good is the local public library, and how convenient is it? Are there clubs and interest groups with like-minded people?

What sort of health care is available in these areas? What about public transportation? Car repair? How easily can you handle the little petty annoyances which crop up in everyday life anywhere and everywhere?

While you may be a homebody, it's unlikely you'll be at home all the time, so in addition to looking for a nice little house with a private yard, look around a little farther to help decide where you'll be happiest.
