Ogden the main road that goes through it looks really bad because all the stores look really old and it's a lot of run down buildings but there is a lot of great flat level housing in Ogden. There is also a lot of housing in Junction City (JC) that look really bad but then there a lot of houses that look nice. Some of the neighborhoods look really bad but they really aren't they're just older houses. A lot of the houses in JC that are across highway 77 are newer but within a good price range. The high school tend to be a mixture of military kids as well as local kids. There is no high school on Fort Riley so the kids that are of high school age get bussed to nearby high schools. There are also some parents who drive there kids to Manhattan high school or Wamego high school.

I think there are 2 high schools in JC. Housing on post is nice but we always get stuck with older housing that no one wants. Our current house is E6 housing that was built in the 1950s and is about 1200 sq ft. with very small bedrooms. Officer housing is really nice on fort Riley and a lot of the Officers wives call it the best kept secret since the O-5 housing is a little under 5000 square feet. The houses are huge, historic, and beautiful. Enlisted housing is nice also but there is still a good amount of old housing. In JC I noticed that a lot of the housing 1st street thru 18th street isn't that great. If you close to Fort Riley then I would advise you to drive here and look at the area before you pick a place to live. Kansas is really good place to live. I am originally from Maryland but have been stationed in Kansas 6 years and it took about 2 years for me to accept the slower pace but its home for now but we are PCSing to Carson Colorado.

Thanks..We did drive up and ended up renting a place in Ogden at River Trail townhomes, I loved these places. I wasnt inpressed at all with what I saw of / in Junction City. We went to one "new" towhome subdivision in JC and it was already ran down. I dont like living on post, my husband has been in 16 and half years and we have had enough of on post living LOL

I agree since we are PCSing we have found a house off post instead of living on base. We get stuck with the old army housing so with our luck we will never have nice on post housing

Can anyone tell me about the middle schools around Ft. Riley? Especially how they adapt to special needs kids?
