My husband received his orders today. He is to report to Fort Leavenworth in early September. My self and our 2 small boys will be making the move too. I am looking for a nice area with excellent an elementary school. Any recommendations? I have come across Lansing and Shawnee, but am feeling a bit overwhelmed with the news of the move. Can anyone offer suggestions. I appreciate anything.

My wife an I have an amazing place for rent in the country 17 minutes from the back gate to Fort Leavenworth. Comfortable, immaculate 3BR home on 26 acres. Big barn with concrete floor and electricty. Fenced horse pasture with 2-stall stable. 2 great tractors and impements included in the rent -- $1700/mo. Kids ride the bus to Salt Creek elementary which is a pretty classic small elementary school. Safe, traditional, teachers that care and are your neighbors. Check out details and pictures at militarybyowner.com. It's on 199th Street in Easton, KS. Or just send me a note.

Granted, I was stationed at Leavenworth a long time ago -- 1992-93. But while there, I resided in Platte City, MO. Easy access to Leavenworth, KCI Airport and the KC Northland. Not a terrible drive, either, if you wish to head to downtown KC or The Plaza. Hopefully PC is still a nice little town.

I live on FT Leavenworth. Lansing has some pretty nice neighborhoods and it's not too far from the base. Also has excellent schools. Shawnee is a bit of a farther drive. Many soldiers live in Platte City, MO as well, and they have a good school district. If you're looking for good schools, Leavenworth is not it. The schools on post are AMAZING, though. Is there a reason on post housing isn't an option? When we moved here, we personally wanted to live on post, instead of off. Good luck and feel free to message me if you have any questions.
