I would just pay it. Before I was familiar with downtown, I parked on a street that was no parking between 7-9 am. I didn't see the sign because it was like 100 ft down the street. Anyway, I was only gone for 15 minutes, came out and my car was being towed. Cost me $150.

If you are ever inclined to gripe about KC parking or parking enforcement, just stroll over to the Chicago forum for some perspective. It's just awful there since they privatized the parking meters.

Go anyplace. KC is the easiest big city in the nation by far to park in. Most small cities have more parking challenges than KC. There is far more parking than the city ever uses, it's cheap or free and people still complain or park illegally and get towed. I find it hilarious.

Parking in Chicago has sucked since cars were invented. Probably prior to that, honestly. I guarantee the forbearers of Lincoln Towing and Phillips Towing where probably out there manhandling horses back in the day.

The difference between KC and Chicago being that while parking might suck in Chicago, you didn't need a car to get around. Our car never moved on the weekends. If I didn't need it to commute I would have gotten rid of it completely and used one of the car sharing services like Zip Car. Hell, if they had that here I might dump the car!

Can you get a parking ticket for "crowding" (not blocking) a driveway on a street where it is legal to park? What is the regulation for distance from a private drive?

KCMO's parking situation is part of it's downfall. It needs better public parking options that are either free or very inexpensive and convenient. Otherwise it will just be viewed as more of a hassle than it's worth compared to the plaza/joco (like it is now) and continue to lose out on consumer dollars.

I don't know who paid for the Plaza's garages but they are really one of the best features of it and really make the district work.

^Downtown's problem is that too many _perceive_ there is not enough parking when actually there is an insane amount, more than any downtown - and also cheaper than most any downtown. You have apparently never lived in a large city.

Street parking is free after 5PM, no need to fill the meters. There are 3 very cheap massive garages in middle of downtown with validation from any P&L place or Consentino's market. There are 30K more spots downtown than on the Plaza. Crown Center parking is plenty and cheap with validation. Crossroads and River Market have essentially free parking most everywhere and way too much parking.

I was at the downtown market a couple weeks ago with coworkers from ATL and they couldn't believe the parking was either free or $1 (with validation from the market). That simply doesn't happen in the center of 99% of large city downtowns.

I guess downtown KC needs to do a better job educating people about parking perceptions. It's really odd a majority in the burbs think it's a problem, just bizarre.
