It's "human nature" for some, ie not human nature, just learned behavior. And it's a snooze for people who didn't care about college athletics even when they were IN college.

"College pride" is no big deal, nor do I find it annoying. I picked up a school logo hoodie myself at my reunion up in Minnesota a couple of weeks ago (though my "college pride" doesn't really have anything to do with athletic teams). Fist fights and pissed off people in sports bars and people mad at one another in the workplace over football games is, however, really, really annoying, and childish.

Its interesting though. The best thing that has happened to downtown KC in the last two decades - Sprint Center and the Power and Light District - probably doesn't happen were it not for our passion for college athletics. The impetus for that development was a desire to keep the Big XII Basketball tournament in town. Were we apathetic towards college hoops, we never have the Big XII tourney, and don't build the arena or entertainment district.

You make an excellent point. That is all very true. NCAA Basketball means a lot of Kansas City. We have hosted more Final Fours than any other city and have housed the NCAA Hall of Fame.

And that's awesome, both for people who are interested in that sort of thing and for the local economy. But it still doesn't make adults with hardcore college athletic rivalry attitudes any less obnoxious.

Obnoxious people are obnoxious. Hardcore college athletic rivalries are not obnoxious.

Maybe, maybe not.
The Sprint Center thrives with or without sports, but they probably did build the thing primarily to attract sports.
Their seems to be passion for the local college teams, one in particular, but outside of those, do we really support college sports that well? Are things like those pre-season tourney's very well attended? I really don't know. I've only heard that there's not much interest.

Compared to other cities, yes. We tend to have close to sell outs, whereas if you look on TV at other pre-season tourneys, the arena is half-empty.

We're also lucky in that the NABC is great about bringing us excellent matchups.

Yes, they draw pretty decent. A lot of preseason tournaments dont draw anything. We get pretty good numbers.

This is college basketball country and events surrounding that tend to draw well here.
