We are thinking of moving back to KC area after 11 years in WA state. Husband lost job, so losing house, etc. Too expensive to live in WA anymore! (even though my family is here). His family in Blue Springs and OP.

My #1 priority is schools. I know Blue valley is the best--I've heard. What else is excellent? I would love to live in Johnson county, but...I might as well stay here with the rental prices/housing. Park Hill is another I'm looking at. Schools have to have the best Special Needs programs. I'm tired of fighting with schools to get the services my kids have to have. (we are from a very small town)

About housing---we also do not want to be in a subdivision. I like country, land, privacy. But are the school districts good in those areas?

I like Liberty area, but I heard Kearney is bad for Spec Ed. What about Smithville?

We don't care how far out of the city it is. DH doesn't have a job yet and I'm a RN, and I like driving.

Please give some input on the different school districts!

If money wasn't an issue---I would want to live in Stilwell, Gardner, or some other area with good schools but out of town.

You may want to consider where you'll be working before you decide on which side of the state line you want to live. No sense in having to file two state income tax returns every year if you can avoid it.

There are good school districts all over the place, on both sides of the border; it isn't like Blue Valley is the one and only school district worth a hoot. The little school district where I and my kids went boasts having graduated the NASA director of of Shuttle operations and the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (this is the highest enlisted rank position possible; he was only the tenth in the history of the Navy), and quite a few self-made multimillionaires. School is what you make of it, not what it makes of you.

Liberty has very good schools, and feels detached to not be very far from the city.
