Parkville? The National subdivision?
Staley Farms? Not sure where this subdivision is located?
Recommended high schools?

Any insight is much appreciated! We know nothing about KC and surrounding areas!

KC is a wide stretch and neighborhoods and lifestyles quite varied.

What's important to you in a neighborhood, a school, a lifestyle?

Your questions are a little vague. The areas you mention are in the Northland and all the schools are good north of the river. The subdivisions you mention are upscale. You would be lucky to find a house under 400K in either of them.

Staley High School (outside Staley Farms) is in the KC North School District and is beautiful. It's a green building which opened in 2008 with a ton of great facilities.

It's pretty hard to go wrong in the Northland - all of the areas you suggest are great.

For schools, I would only avoid the areas in the S.E. part of Clay County (around Claycomo, the southern end of North Brighton, the eastern part of Antioch) - some parts around there aren't as good as the rest, and it's so easy to find something affordable in great neighborhoods elsewhere that feed into higher quality schools in the NKC School District. Please note, I don't think the schools in those areas are horrible, they're just not as great as other parts of the district.

Some things I would consider are:
1) Commute for work - some parts are easier to get to south of the river/KS side/Western Jackson Co. than others, if you don't work in the Northland. For example, if your job is in Indpendence, and you want to live in the Northland, you might consider Liberty over Parkville.

2) KCMO vs. other 'burbs/unincorporated Platte/Clay county. There's a 1% e-tax you have to pay if you live or work in KCMO. If you work in KCMO, then buying in KCMO is probably not an issue. But if you don't - I'd avoid living in KCMO city limits if I could. I wouldn't use it as the primary factor in choosing a place (I lived in KCMO before I moved away for work and I'd move back into the city in a heartbeat if I could) but it's definitely a tie-breaker, in my opinion.

I think southern Platte county is awesome, but when we were looking at possibly coming back home (didn't get the job, darn it), the area around the new Staley High was appealing to us, because we were priced out of Parkville unless we got very lucky.
