Hi. We considering getting out of all the snow and to a more forested area

We'd like water land trees hills. We can drive to the city so it doesn't need to be close. An hour away from airport, family in Co and Tn.

Would like to ideally be on some type of water (lake, river, pond) or golf course. Budget up to $500k.

Looking at Lees Summit, Overland. Not sure where else to look. Need a realtor with lots of experience in the area.

Move within the next year. Have not been to the area but planning on some RV trips in the near future to check them out.

Thanks!

Perhaps you should check out the Northland. There are several lakes (e.g., Riss Lake being the newest and nicest) and Smithville Lake is there if you want to go exurban. Weston and Parkville in the Northland are very hilly, forested, and quaint communities and Riss Lake is very close to the Parkville. There are several golf courses just west of Riss Lake on both sides of aptly named Tom Watson Parkway. Staley Farms and Tiffany Springs golf courses are further north and flatter. In all those places, you will be very close to KCI. The northland is very hilly, especially in the older southern part and the neighborhoods tend to be more isolated from each other by the topography. I suspect $500,000 will get you into most neighborhoods I have mentioned except maybe homes on the golf course. Most of the neighborhoods will be in KCMO although Riss Lake may be in Parkville?

No matter your location, you will still have to deal with snow.

If you choose something in Platte County, Mo., or Clay County, Mo., you can have all of the rest, plus be within a 20-minute drive of the airport.

If you want to be fairly close to the airport, Lee’s Summit is probably one of the worst choices in the KC area. Look at Clay or Platte County, MO for sure. Don’t worry about snow. Mr. Dokie bought a fancy 2 stage snow blower last year. That will guarantee mild winters for at least 5 to 10 years.

Yes, it's in Parkville. The boundary is just east of it.

That is the case. An item the OP might be aware of is that property taxes in Parkville are quite steep compared to Colorado Springs, but that may not matter based on their price point...

One thing to consider if you move to Kansas City city limits is that you will pay a one percent earnings tax for living within the limits.
