Not much by way of actual lakes within Kansas City. A few within the metro as a whole, though.

No naturally occurring lakes, but some decent reservoirs as already mentioned.

Thank you. I wanted to get a short list for someone coming in from out of town. If you were going to make your way to one, beautiful lake. Which one would you go to?

The list I have is: Blue Springs Lake, Longview Lake, Shawnee Mission Lake, Smithville Lake, Clinton Marina and Jacomo

Well, that depends on what you want to do. Do you just want to look at a lake, or do you want to do something on the lake?

I would say Blue Springs Lake or Jacomo, both of which are part of the large Fleming Park which is by far most popular recreational lake area in the metro. Fleming Park in general has a lot of really nice vistas, just driving down Woods Chapel Road or Liggett Road between 470 and 40 has a lake of the Ozarks feel to it as if you have left the KC area. Blue Springs is popular with power boats, skiing etc, it also has has a beach while Jacomo is more for fishing and sail boats since they don't allow skiing on that lake. You can rent boats etc at Fleming Park. Right across I-470 from Fleming Park is Lakewood, a residential lake that is a nice place to just drive through and look at all the waterfront mcmansions.

What area will you be in/will they be coming from? What do you want to do at the lake?

For fishing, James A Reed has 11 lakes and ponds, over 250 acres.
