I am flying in to KC tomorrow morning, from Dallas. Wondering if I should go ahead and change my return flight (instead of sunday) for it to be on Saturday. Basically are your guy's news channels saying its going to get bad bad? like enough to cancel a flight? Thanks.

The forecast is subject to change. No news station or even the NWS will be able to predict the weather until it's 24 hours away. Freezing rain requires specific conditions to occur and is thus more rare than other winter precipitation. I recall a situation in the winter of 2007/2008 in which KC was slated to receive significant freezing rain. Schools canceled class proactively. Many at my company worked from home to avoid the roads. Guess what happened? The temperatures remained above freezing all day. It ended up as nothing more than normal rain.

This weekend could be better or worse than expected. Right now, Friday and Saturday hold the largest probability for bad weather. Sunday is projected to warm to above freezing, which would be fine for traveling.

If it concerned me, I would avoid visiting in the first place. If that's not an option, then stick with Sunday. It's probably not worth paying to change your flight with so little certainty around the weekend forecast.

As of now, we're expecting the temperature to rise above freezing late Sunday afternoon.

Saturday night/Sunday morning is supposed to be the worst of the freezing rain.
