My pocket of JoCo is happily more liberal than I anticipated. I wouldn't say it's overall reflective, though.

He's just become a troll. Most of what he posts is nonsensical and not reflective of the Metro at all.

I find most of Northeast Johnson County to be that way.

While the last presidential election is clearly not the best measure of traditional/sane Republican or "liberal" Democrat support, there is this:

Well this thread exploded since the last time I checked!

I can appreciate seeing both sides of the argument, even the more radical views on the suburbs vs metro. Funny how while I was out there I did get questioned about being single but I didn't sense any judgement there - maybe because I'm just used to the California mindset and wouldn't have assumed it would be an issue. And since it was discussed, I would discourage anyone from moving to the Bay Area, SoCal or Sacramento. The Pacific Northwest is quickly becoming the new California so a move to Seattle would be the best idea.

Right now I think I'll be looking in the Plaza for a place to live. It seems you can get a decent apartment for at or below $1,000. The Crossroads comes in second and River Market area third. The old brick style apartments are really attractive in those areas, and they have easy access to the I-35.

I'd consider the suburbs (Leawood, Lenexa, OP..) if I could find a reasonable 2+ bed house with a garage in the $200-300k range. I've grown up doing all of my own maintenance on cars, houses and anything else so having a garage could be enough to bring me out to the suburbs.

You might actually be able to get both things: a house with a garage that's also in the city, near lots of amenities. Check out neighborhoods like Valentine, Volker or Hyde Park. Also look at North Kansas City.

OP, don't spend time commuting.

There are plenty of places close to work that should fit your needs and have a garage too.

However, I did REALLY like the advice from the poster about maybe renting for a year and feeling out the area but can understand what a pain it is to move and move and move.

Best of luck.
