Well, this shows things a little differently...and Missouri isn't doing that well, either.

Does it though? That shows Missouri is in the top half - performing better than average, and KS is in the bottom quarter.

Also, the key aspect of the change in job numbers is showing the way the economies are currently trending. If you compare those rankings from Wallethub, between 2016 and 2017, it also shows and upward trajectory for MO and a slide for KS. MO went up from #30 to #23 and KS fell from #35 to #38. (I don't see any Wallethub rankings for 2015 or before, so I'm not sure on the longer term trends).

Just for perspective, though - take a look at the long term unemployment trends for JoCo KS vs JaCo MO.

https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/KSJOHN1URN
https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/MOJACK5URN

JoCo peaked at 7.2% in July 2009, and now stands at 3.5%. JaCo tipped the scales at 11.1% in Nov 2010 and still comes in around 4.9%.

In other words, MO side was (and still is) digging itself out of a much deeper hole since the recession.

You are comparing the unemployment rate of mostly urban county to that of an all suburban county? Really?

If you are going to do that, at last compare the entire MO (Jackson, Clay, Platte, Cass) side to the entire KS side (JO, WY and LV). I would imagine KS would still have a better unemployment stats mainly because it still has less urban poverty, but at least the comparison would be at least somewhat legit.

Bottom line is the MO side is now killing the KS side when it comes to new jobs. It's not even close and hasn't been for years. And that's good for the metro to get things balanced back out again and get jobs back on the side of the state line that provides nearly all the culture and amenities of the metro.

Yep. Wyandotte Co would be a better Comparison for Jackson Co, and Jackson's numbers are better (WyCo is at 6.2%) Clay, Platte, and Cass are more similar to JoCo.

Besides, unemployment numbers aren't really the best indicator of economic growth.

sorry, FRED doesn't break out the data that way. I just figured I would pull out the two "flagship" counties of the metro.

Like I said, just for perspective. I have no love for the way either place is governed.

I'd also like to know more about the quality of the jobs being added. 25000 fast food jobs is just not a win for any community.
