Another Metro North development - they have taken away all the trucks Claycomo was storing up there and there is now a sign on the west side of Macys (visible from 169) advertising "Metro North Crossing." Don't know when all this happened - we were out of town for January and February and just got home last Tuesday.

I hope they change their minds on the naming. The last thing they need in the title of the development are the words "Metro North".

But hey, maybe Montgomery Wards will reopen.

Too late! Saw a picture on Facebook today where they are starting to tear down MW. (Went back later to post it here, now I can't find it).

They tore down the MW Auto Center in the parking lot that sits next to Barry Road. They haven't begun tearing down the actual mall yet. BTW it was almost 2 years ago that they shut the mall down.

59 million in tax incentives for a freaking greenfield development based around a Costco?

You have to be freaking kidding me. 59 Million dollars? Is this thing going to be owned by the city? Will it include a high school or something? WTF?

I mean, I could see this type of incentives for the replacement of metro north mall which will cost for more and is a redevelopment project. But this is just insane. This is either a typo or the city has lost their minds.

Northland Costco will begin construction in August and open next spring | The Kansas City Star

Not sure. I guess the Northland is mimicking the Johnson County subsidized retail model.

Is there anywhere north of the river where you can shop without a TIF?

That Kmart will probably close within the next year.

Kmart has accelerated its pace of store closures.

It was fairly busy the last few time I've been. I think Kmart owns it unlike the stores in JoCo that they were quick to dump as the leases expired. The rare example of them closing stores they own is north Topeka. I see the Independence Venture-Kmart closing before the north KCMO one.
